Banksy gives his two cents on advertising in an open letter/rant. If you've seen a single Banksy piece in your life, you can take an educated guess on his stance.
This is an ad for Banksy. Art is his product. He has a sense of entitlement no smaller than the brands he criticizes. "Exit through the gift shop" is a clever Banksy ad. His film (like all his artwork) is protected by copyright law. Copyright law protect all artists ability to make a living. "Anything you make is yours." is the essence. These laws legally prevent corporations from copying an artist's work and selling it at scale. Artists have sued corporations and won thanks to copyright and moral rights. This is why apple is in the courts with Samsung also, they believe they were ripped off. Copyright laws also do allow anyone to satirize trademarks under the fair use provisions. I think we owe everyone courtesy and we are free to choose not buy anything we want. I am an artist and I admire Banksy's artwork but I am not so loyal to his brand that I'll live according to what he's telling me here.
