[Music] Official Hype's Top 10 Tracks of 2011

2011 is coming to an end, a year in which we witnessed the meteoric rise of Odd Future, dubstep definitely crossing over into the mainstream and a whole lot of indie hipster music videos. This post is our official Top 10 tracks of 2011 list. In order to qualify for our list, the song had to be officially released in 2011 and be an original production (no remixes), pretty simple. So here are our ten favourite tracks of the year in no particular order.

10. F.O.O.L - Krieg
The first track on our list is brought to you by the Swedish electronic duo F.O.O.L (FuckOurOrdinaryLifes). Their electronic/orchestral track Krieg is simply...epic. You can download their EP "Call to Krieg" right here

9. Theophilus London - I Stand Alone

Theophilus London had a big year in 2011 with the release of his debut album “Timez Are Weird These Days” and basically touring all over the world. His track I Stand Alone easily stands out from the rest of his album with its enjoyable beat and memorable chorus. The track has in some ways become an anthem as it got featured on HBO’s “How To Make It In America” and got remixed by SkreamBuy the track on iTunes

8. M83 - Midnight City

The ambitious 2CD album project of Anthony Gonzalez aka M83 was a complete success. Nevertheless, amongst the 22 tracks of “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”, one song stands out the most. Midnight City has this ungraspable feeling of nostalgia surrounding its dreamy vocals : the saxophone ending will get to you as it did to me. Unfortunately, the track is no longer available as a free download, but it can be bought along with the album on iTunes.

7. Tech N9ne - Worldwide Choppers

We could’ve selected a couple of songs from Tech N9ne’s excellent album "All 6’s and 7’s" but went ahead with Worldwide Choppers which features acts like Busta Rhymes, Yelawolf and Twista. The instrumental is great and most impressively there isn’t a bad part in the song which is surprising considering there are nine other rappers on the track. Absolutely everybody goes in this track and destroys it. Worldwide Choppers was abused during my EuroTrip this summer. Buy the track on iTunes.

6. SebastiAn - Embody

Providing the best track in the year for the Ed Banger Records family, SebastiAn’s Embody is great. It’s fun, light, funky and very enjoyable. Add the fantastic music video by SO-ME and it’s that much better. The track got official remixes by the legendary DJ Premier and Kavinsky and was well received by basically anyone we know.  Buy the track on iTunes.

5. Metronomy - The Bay

Whilst Metronomy slowed their usually upbeat tempo on their latest album, they still managed to deliver one of the year's best singles. The Bay, the liveliest track on their album "The English Riviera", is the band’s best example of their unashamed switch to pop music, an incredibly successful switch. The refreshingly catchy bassline and the group’s united chorus make this track a perfect summer anthem. Furthermore, the half sexy, half bizarre, fully awesome video accompanying the music creates an amazing combination. Buy their work on iTunes.

4. Tyler, the Creator - Transylvania

2011 was without a doubt Odd Future’s year as they, more specifically Tyler, the Creator, completely dominated the internet. Transylvania was our favourite track from his "Goblin" album mostly because of the badassery of the instrumental. The lyrics are without a doubt insulting but you can’t take anything Tyler says seriously or to the first degree. Buy his album on iTunes.

3. Woodkid - Iron

Yoann LeMoine’s music video for Iron is without a single doubt the best video of the year and one of the best since the new millennium. We fell in love with the track right from the beginning with its mesmerizing horns and tribal drums. The track got a huge boost in popularity as it got featured on the trailer for the latest Assassin’s Creed video game. Buy it on iTunes.

2. Watch The Throne - Niggas In Paris

We were kinda disappointed with the overall project of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “Watch The Throne”. However, they did create one magical track that for some reason makes you go cray (please excuse the cheesiness). Niggas in Paris is without a doubt one of our favourite tracks of the year. The beat is simple but it still remains banging and Kanye and Hov are both at their best which results into an instant classic. You know you created a gem when you can play a track seven times in one of your shows and the crowd goes nuts everytime.

1. Avicii - Levels

The surprise of the year for us as we're not really into the "house" type of electronic music but this track is amazing. Avicii's (also known as Tim Berg) Levels has that uncanny ability to make you feel like something good is going to happen in your life. The track samples Etta James' 1962 track Something's Got A Hold On Me and it fits perfectly into the song. The track has been a worldwide success even though Flo Rida and Skrillex both tried to ruin Avicii's work. If you watch "How To Make It In America" you'd know that Levels was used in the end credits in the season premiere of season two. Buy the track on iTunes.

There it is, our ten favorite tracks of the year "cuz we got you covered bruh."
